Lava Cap Winery, located in Placerville, California, has been family-owned since 1981 when the Jones family planted their first vines. Millions of years ago, volcanic activity in the Sierra Nevada mountains created unique patches of volcanic soil in the foothills. The Jones family specifically selected one of these rare "lava cap" sites to establish their vineyard, recognizing its perfect suitability for growing fine wine grapes. Since their first vintage in 1986, the family has remained dedicated to crafting elegant wines that reflect the terroir of the Sierra Foothills.
Joe Norman, Lava Cap’s winemaker, handcrafts each wine using artisan techniques to enhance its flavor and depth. His approach complements the sustainable practices of vineyard manager Charlie Jones, ensuring the grapes reflect their volcanic roots while preserving the environment.
